DEFINITION
asian fail : 1. receiving a grade lower than an A+ in school. i.e. asian mom: "you got A- on your math test! you are not my son!" Asian Fail Grading System
A = average B = bad C = crap D = DEAD Every asian kid knows, A+ is the only acceptable grade. For asian parents, you are only allowed to be the best, nothing less. I don't think they get that some kids have to not be the best in order for there to be a best. But they don't think like that, they need their kids to be the best, including getting straight A's. Anything less is an asian fail. Top colleges and universities take the top performing students from high schools, regardless of their actual grade, SAT scores or intelligence. A moderately intelligent student from a podunk high school who is number 1 or 2 in their class has a better chance of getting into a top university and a scholarship than a much smarter student from a school full of asians. Why? Because asian kids get so much pressure to study and perform well. In addition, asian parents pay for their kids to get the best tutoring and do summer programs like math camp or SAT camp. These camps don't necessarily help kids learn the subject matter. They just teach students how to take tests, regardless of intelligence or handle on the subject matter. There is a asian fail standard for SAT as well, but I don't remember what it was. But I do recall as a high school student that my asian friends who went to those month long SAT camps did work. Even the moderately intelligent ones made pretty high scores. Why Are Asian Parents Like This? So this is the story of that many children of immigrant asian parents have heard over and over again. And it has a bit of merit, that's why we let them continue to nag us with it. Basically, most asian parents worked very hard and sacrificed immensely to immigrate to the US and worked very hard to provide a life for their family so they kids can have a good education and grow up to be rich and successful. It's similar to the guilt trip by a Jewish mother. We know that most of it is true, the thing about working hard and sacrificing, and so we listen and reluctantly bury our heads again into our books. Professions of Choice? All asian parents want their kids to become one of three things in this order: doctor, lawyer and businessman. Accountant works too, but not as popular for some reason. Maybe because it doesn't require a graduate degree from Harvard? These professions, as they say, provide lots of money, stability, and security. And not just for their kids and their future families, but for the parents as well. More recently, because of witnessing the ups and downs of the economy and the business sector, more and more asian parents are 'encouraging' their kids to become doctors or lawyers, professions that are recession proof. | Featured Products
